GMC Annual Meeting (6/99)

The GMC held its annual meeting at Stratton Mtn. Resort on June 12. Approximately 60 people attended. Not too many Burlington Section members made the long drive.

GMC Annual Meeting Awards

Gilbert Patnoe of the Laraway Section received the GMC President's award and the Vibram Volunteer of the Year award for his volunteer work on Spruce Ledge Camp.

It was reported that the GMC headquarters improvement/expansion fund now has about $20,000. The first project to be undertaken will be locating a workshop in the north barn, to be named in honor of Dot and “Pirk” Pirkanen. The next priority is to build office space in the current tool storage/workshop area of the south barn.

Another GMC goal is to create field staff housing. Daan Zwick (Burlington Section member) has offered a $100,000 challenge grant toward the construction of northern field staff housing (for the land, design, permits, and building). It is likely that the GMC will try to purchase 60 to 70 acres of property just west of the headquarters as the owner is not interested in selling a smaller parcel adequate for field staff housing. The negotiations have been authorized, but not the purchase.

Members also participated in several afternoon hikes and reception at the Stratton Town Hall followed by dinner and an evening program.
